CHARLESTON, SC — Michael B. Moore, Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District, responded enthusiastically to Vice President Kamala Harris's selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate:
“Governor Walz, a former teacher and distinguished member of the Army National Guard, has long championed women, working families, and veterans in Minnesota. Together with Vice President Harris, they represent strong leadership and a steadfast commitment to improving American lives. Their vision and experience make them the winning ticket this November. I am confident they will tackle critical issues facing working families in South Carolina and across the country, including women's reproductive freedom and healthcare broadly, economic opportunity, and the environment. Their dedication to upholding democracy and protecting the rights and freedoms of all Americans is unwavering. I am proud to support their campaign and believe deeply in the leadership they will bring to our nation.”
Last month, Moore was among the first Democrats urging President Biden to step aside and pave the way for a new nominee against former President Donald Trump. He continues to campaign vigorously in a tightly contested race against Rep. Nancy Mace in South Carolina’s newly redrawn 1st District.
A citizen candidate and forward-thinking business executive with nearly four decades of private sector experience, Michael B. Moore has held leadership roles at Fortune 500 companies, entrepreneurial ventures, and nonprofit organizations. Most recently, he was the founding president of the International African American Museum in Charleston, South Carolina.
Michael comes from a long line of pioneering public servants – most notably his great-great-grandfather, Civil War hero and Reconstruction-era Congressman Robert Smalls, who held the same seat almost 150 years ago.
After graduating from Syracuse University, Michael earned an MBA from Duke University and received an honorary Doctorate in Public History from Dickinson College. He is a devoted husband to his wife, Karla; the loving father of four sons: David, Lucas, Israel, and Robert; and a new grandfather to Sasha.
