Before choosing workers’ champ Tim Walz as her running mate, Vice President Harris kicked off her campaign in earnest right here in Texas, bringing the house down at the American Federation of Teachers convention in Houston.
We are honored Vice President Harris came to Texas and stood with public school teachers. Our teachers have been under attack for years, and we’re proud to fight side-by-side with them against the voucher scam that Republicans want to bring nationwide.
President Biden visited Austin to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act at the LBJ Library. His remarks served as a crucial reminder that we cannot secure economic justice without racial justice, and the labor movement must be at the forefront of these intertwined fights.
Meanwhile, Trump got weird. At a panel at the National Association of Black Journalists, Trump claimed that millions of undocumented migrants were pouring into the country and stealing “Black jobs.” Reminder: every worker – regardless of race, religion, or immigration status – deserves a living wage, the right to collectively bargain without fear of retaliation, and freedom from exploitation.
The real culprit for low wages and dangerous workplaces isn’t our fellow workers – it’s the billionaires and CEOs that bankroll anti-union politicians so they can keep getting away with exploiting us. We can’t let them divide us. We are strongest when we stand together.
