Hi, Big Tech billionaire and Microsoft board member Reid Hoffman has donated tens of millions of dollars to Democrats in recent years.1 Now he's called for the firing of Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan, the most effective FTC chair we've had in decades.2 We're not about to let that happen. Lina Khan has battled corporate monopolies from Big Tech to Big Pharma.3 Billionaires like Reid Hoffman want her fired because she's fighting to protect everyday American families from corporate corruption and price-gouging. We need to have her back! Demand Progress Action has mobilized tens of thousands of people to support Lina Khan's efforts to check corporate power. Now we need to step up and defend her from these billionaire attacks.
Under Khan, the FTC has fought monopolistic corporate power at every turn. She's cracking down on exploitative anti-worker noncompete agreements, gone after Amazon on wage theft, and sued Google for deceptive advertising.4,5 However, Khan's determination to diminish unbridled corporate power has drawn enemies from Big Tech, Wall Street, congressional Republicans, Fox News, the Wall Street Journal opinion pageā¦ you name it.6 Reid Hoffman, a Microsoft board member, has a particular personal stake in getting rid of Lina Khan. Earlier this year, Microsoft agreed to pay $650 million to the Hoffman-founded artificial intelligence company Inflection AI. But Khan's FTC is currently scrutinizing the deal as a potential violation of antitrust law.7 So for Reid Hoffman, giving a few million dollars here or there to politicians isn't much compared to the $650 million windfall if this deal goes through. Demand Progress Action has long regarded Khan as one of the fiercest and most effective critics of Big Tech. She understands both the threats that monopolies pose and how to use the tools of government to hold them accountable We need strong champions like Lina Khan in charge of the FTC, and at this moment we need to defend her against Big Tech billionaire attacks.
