Thames, Yorkshire and Northumbrian Water fined £168 million 🚨
|
John,
Did you see the huge news today? Three water companies have recieved MASSIVE fines. It's clear that the pressure we've put on those in power is working. 🙌
So, what happened?
Ofwat has been carrying out its biggest ever investigation into water company practices and today they released the first batch of outcomes, targeted at Thames, Yorkshire and Northumbrian Water.
All three were found to have:
-
Failed to ensure discharges only occur in exceptional circumstances 😠
-
Not properly operated and maintained their wastewater treatment works 😡
-
Failed to upgrade assets to ensure they meet the changing needs of the area they serve 🤬
As a result, they've proposed the following fines: Thames Water - £104m, Yorkshire Water - £47m and Northumbrian Water - £17m.

|
These fines illustrate the sheer state of disrepair of our broken water industry, and although that picture looks bleak, we can take heart from the fact that we are being heard and action is finally being taken. 🙌
But we know we need systematic change and we won't stop until we've ended sewage pollution for good.
Thank you so much to you, our supporters, for helping us to put the health of our wild waters front and centre.
