Hey, John,
My mother spent her career working as a public school teacher. I would wake up early to make sure I actually got to see her in the mornings before she had to leave for her classroom, and one of the most vivid memories I have of my childhood is seeing her up late into the night, grading papers at our kitchen table. Teaching is hard, often thankless work, but it makes a huge difference in a kid’s life.
Public school is the great equalizer—no matter where you're from or what your background is, the promise our state makes is that our public schools should be able to give you a great education, and our teachers are the key piece of that.
Which is why I was so excited to learn today that Kamala Harris has selected Gov. Tim Walz, a former teacher, as her running mate on the Democratic ticket.
Right now, public education is under attack in our country and our state. Republicans know that it's the great equalizer—and they’ve spent decades working to undermine it.
On average, our teachers spend more than $1,300 of their own money each year just on school supplies, and right now, if your Facebook feed is anything like mine, it’s full of teachers (including my sister, who followed in Mom’s footsteps) begging for help to afford the basic necessities that will keep their classrooms running.
Selecting a public school teacher as our party's nominee for Vice President sends a message about our party’s priorities, and I’m excited to be able to get out into every community and give them such a clear promise that Democrats will prioritize public schools and teachers.
Well, and the fact that Walz spent two decades in charge of the lunch room should help him with wrangling the Senate next year, too.
And with the Democratic ticket officially set, now it’s time for us to double down and spend the next thirteen weeks working to elect our full slate—the entire ballot from Harris for President to Harris for Treasurer and beyond.
Yesterday marked three months out from election day, which means it's time for us to hustle like we’ve never hustled before.
I’m spending the next three months just as I have—getting out into every part of North Carolina and spreading the message that if they want to see government be a force for good in their communities again, they need to vote for Democrats.
It's time to fight for our values. It's time to fight for opportunity—and that means fighting for education. But I need you with me if we're going to come out on top and finish out this election as strong as we possibly can. So can I please count on you to support my campaign with a contribution of any amount this morning? Every dollar helps. [[link removed]]
