As we continue to push for immediate reforms in the Olympic Games to prevent male athletes from competing against women, it's crucial to look to our leaders in the United States to create robust protections for women's sports domestically.
In May of this year, the US House passed HR 734 to safeguard women and girls in sports, preventing XY biological males, transgender or otherwise, from competing against XX biological females. However, similar legislation introduced by Senator Tuberville in March did not make it out of committee. If passed, this bill would have ensured a level playing field for U.S. athletes and placed the responsibility for current issues on the American Left.
Co-sponsor Senator Steube pointed out that not a single Democrat supported the legislation to protect girls' sports. "The argument from the Democrats was, ‘This never happens. Girls don’t get hurt. You’re making this up.’ But we had example after example, and now it’s happening all the time, even on the world stage. They want to push this progressive ideology on America and the world, and it’s just wrong,” he insisted. "It’s frustrating and upsetting. Women have come so far on the athletic playing fields, only to face setbacks that are completely embraced by the Left. This is exactly what they want to push on the American people."
For Vice President Kamala Harris, this issue will be challenging in the general election. Her strong advocacy for the transgender movement conflicts with the views of many voters, 80% of whom disapprove of the Biden administration’s stance on girls' sports.
"This is where Kamala Harris’s ideas about gender lead,” Republican Vice-Presidential candidate and Senator J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) tweeted, “to a grown man pummeling a woman in a boxing match. This is disgusting, and all of our leaders should condemn it.”
Prominent voices like Riley Gaines emphasize that Harris does not represent the interests of women. "Crickets from Kamala,” Gaines told Fox’s Jesse Waters regarding the boxing controversy. “A vote for Kamala is a vote against your daughter’s future. Many say they’ll vote for Kamala because she’s a woman, but I will be voting for Trump because I am a woman,” Gaines declared.
The question remains: will the current Olympics serve as a rallying cry? Are we at a tipping point where people will declare, "Enough of this insanity?” Steube certainly hopes so. He believes that real change will only come by electing Trump as president, flipping the Senate, and maintaining control of the House. Without this political shift, he warned, we face four more years of a White House that claims to support women while simultaneously erasing their opportunities.
It's time to support our allies in the US Senate to advance Senate Bill 613 out of committee and onto the floor for a vote. At the same time, we must continue to press the Olympic Committee to enforce fair competition rules.
