Trump campaign faces another court loss in Nevada

  • In a win for voters, a Nevada court rejected the Trump campaign's request to toss certain timely cast mail-in ballots.


  • Last month, the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) lost a federal lawsuit attempting to challenge the state’s mail-in ballot receipt deadline ahead of the 2024 election.


Washington, D.C. gets ballot initiative on ranked choice voting, party primaries

  • Washington, D.C. voters will weigh in on a pro-voting ballot measure in November that would allow independent voters to participate in party primaries and implement a ranked choice voting system, starting with the June 2026 primary election.   • The “Make All Voters Count DC” campaign collected signatures for the citizen-initiated measure, and the D.C. Elections Board verified the signature count on Friday.

Struggles for voting rights continue in Mississippi

  • The RNC appealed the dismissal of its lawsuit seeking to reject mail-in ballots in Mississippi that are cast by Election Day and received shortly after. The case is now before the 5th Circuit — the most conservative federal appeals court.


  • Recently, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Mississippi Constitution’s felony disenfranchisement provision will remain in effect, reversing its previous opinion from August 2023. Democracy Docket talked to individuals working to get their voting rights restored about this ruling’s impact.


Utah GOP candidate asks court to overturn primary election loss

  • GOP candidate for Utah governor, Phil Lyman, filed a lawsuit asking the state Supreme Court to overturn his primary election loss to incumbent Gov. Spencer Cox (R) and declare him the official Republican nominee.
