Subject: How to give transgender students the school environment they deserve
To: [email protected]
tl;dr - Register here to join us on Zoom to learn how to build a trans-affirming school.
Hey John,
August is just around the corner (yikes!), so we know teachers and administrators are already beginning to think about what challenges the new school year will bring. For transgender, non-binary and gender expansive students, we should all want their only worry to be the same as any other student: schoolwork, tryouts, SATs, big birthdays, auditions...you know, just being young!
But for too many trans students, they worry about their safety and acceptance at the place they have to go every day. Let's be clear:
- Transgender students have the RIGHT to safer and more affirming environments.
- Transgender students deserve RESPECT.
- Adult allies have the RESPONSIBILITY to support transgender students.
On Tuesday, August 6th, join our Associate Director of Trans Health & Rights, Dr. Jaymie Campbell, for an interactive overview of Advocates for Youth's Trans Affirming Schools Project. Our comprehensive training and Resource Guide on school-based strategies to create safer, more affirming schools for transgender, non-binary, and gender-expansive students has already been used by hundreds of school districts in every kind of state!
In addition to foundational gender and sexuality knowledge and terminology, this project includes specific strategies for dealing with anti-trans efforts in schools across the country.
Please register here to do your part in caring for and protecting trans students this year.
Thanks so much,
Armonte Butler
