Dear Friend,
We hope you're staying cool today! We know you are as eager as we are to hear that Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to officially announce her running mate tomorrow morning. This election is crucial not only for our nation but also for our state. That's why, in just 10 days, we're having our virtual election campaign launch on August 15th from 6:00-7:30pm.
This election offers us a chance to make history! We are inspired to meet this moment with you and to keep organizing for a better, more equitable, and inclusive Maryland. We're excited to discuss the strategies, activities, and tactics we'll use and the ways everyone can get involved. Delegate Tiffany Alston will be speaking at the event, and we'll be talking about the upcoming election, so make sure to RSVP here.
August is a month of action for Progressive Maryland. We have a lot going on, so be sure to read on in the memo for more information on how you can contribute to these initiatives. In solidarity, The Progressive Maryland Team |

Healthcare Justice Campaign: Join the Fight to Stop Insurance Company Care and Claim Denials!
Our Care Over Cost campaign is putting public pressure on insurance companies like UnitedHealthcare and working for state and national policies that support all the people having problems using their health insurance policies to obtain the healthcare they need when and where they need it!
You can help this fight! Start by taking a few minutes today to fill out our short survey and to watch a powerful video!
➢ Fill out the SURVEY
➢ Watch and share the video from our action on July 15th when we took our stories and demands to UnitedHealthcare’s HQs in Minnesota. Progressive Maryland was there with organizations from across the country.
We’re getting the attention of lawmakers, the media, and policy experts, and we’ll keep pushing for more of that and for real action. But in all of our work, the most important audience is everyday people like our supporters and members. Please fill out the survey, we’ll use the results in our advocacy.
The election is less than 100 days away! Help us make this a key election year issue. -

South Prince George’s County
In 2022, 16 million dollars were used to power Prince George’s County schools’ electricity throughout the year. Imagine how that money could have been spent instead: mental health resources, after school activities, teacher supplies. Current opportunities from the Infrastructure Reduction Act are there to help finance solar for schools, and the school board just needs to APPLY for them. In our school district’s 2 billion dollar budget, a 500,000$ subsidized project not only has financial rewards, but shows that communities have a say.
We cannot afford to let these opportunities go, and YOU can be the one who changes things. Join us in our fight by signing our petition and testifying at the school board meetings! RSVP here

Silver Spring Justice Coalition: August 7 @ 9:30am in Rockville |
From SSJC: “Harriet’s Wildest Dreams, a D.C. based organization that has partnered with SSJC on a number of occasions, has asked us to support a member of their organization at his court appearance in Montgomery County this Wednesday, August 7 at 9:30 am. Due to a backlog in the state's mental health system, Mekhi is one of many individuals experiencing mental health challenges who have been waiting in jail for placement in an appropriate mental health facility. As a result, Mekhi has been unjustly held in jail since March and our presence is requested at his upcoming court hearing to demand his immediate transfer to a mental health facility. Our presence can make a significant difference in his case and demonstrate to the court that Mekhi has a strong support system. Please RSVP if you can join us here. The address is: 50 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, Courtroom 3E, North.”
