We're excited to share upcoming events and updates. We titled this newsletter "Building Movement Power" to remind us that this work is about building power together, redefining what keeps our communities safe beyond bars and borders, and surrounding ourselves with the joy and love our communities deserve.
As a BIPOC-led organization, our mission to abolish century-old policies, practices, and systems of incarceration and deportation is not without its challenges.
It's important to ask ourselves if these systems can be led by the people most impacted. The answer is yes!
It's an uphill battle that takes time to chip away, and it needs the support of people like you who understand that progress moves at the speed of trust.

Join us for our annual Night Out for Safety and Liberation this August 6 starting at 6! Our goal is to bring the community together to re-imagine and re-define public safety.
Note: For our Houston event, we are accepting donations and school supplies for the Fifth Ward Humble Beginnings Daycare.

[[link removed]] Counsel At First Appearance in Travis County
Safety and justice begins with reclaiming empathy, acknowledging each other’s humanity, and uniting to advance practices that create autonomy for us, our neighbors, and our families.
Counsel at first appearance (CAFA) aims to create a more equitable pretrial justice process by providing quality, holistic legal representation.

We're gathering over 50+ people from the community to talk about voter engagement, voter oppression, and how this upcoming election will affect our most vulnerable.

La asistencia letrada en la primera comparecencia (CAFA, por sus siglas en inglés) tiene como objetivo crear un proceso de justicia previo al juicio más equitativo, proporcionando una representación legal holística y de calidad.

Estamos reuniendo a más de 50 personas de la comunidad para hablar sobre la participación electoral, la opresión de los votantes y cómo estas próximas elecciones afectarán a nuestros más vulnerables.
