Friend,
Cramped crates for mother pigs on farms. Inhumane puppy mills. Cruel testing on rabbits.
Rarely have animals faced more threats to their safety than they do right now. Without the protections they so desperately need, millions of animals will continue to suffer. In a matter of weeks, Congress can take action—but Americans like you must make your voices heard by letting Congress know protecting animals is important to you and demand they take action before the year is done.
Take action now: Ask your members of Congress to protect animals by supporting pro-animal welfare legislation and fighting any measures that put animals at risk of harm and abuse.
Even though the House and Senate are on their summer break, we won’t stop fighting for the safety of all animals. But members of Congress must hit the ground running after the August recess to pass key legislation to protect animals, so they need to hear from you NOW. Your action can make a difference in:
- Ensuring the Farm Bill does not contain language seeking to nullify crucial farm animal welfare laws like California’s Proposition 12 and similar laws in Arizona, Ohio and Florida, along with other state-level protections that cover food safety, disease prevention, environmental protection and labor standards.
- Passing the Better CARE for Animals Act, which empowers the Department of Justice to enforce the Animal Welfare Act, providing them the resources to step in quicker and end the suffering of animals in puppy mills, roadside zoos and labs.
- Passing the SAFE Act, which would permanently ban domestic horse slaughter in the United States and prevent the export of American horses for slaughter abroad.
- Passing the Humane Cosmetics Act, which would ban animal testing for all cosmetic products manufactured or sold in the U.S., bringing the U.S. in line with the 45 other countries where this outdated practice has already been prohibited.
Congress may be on a break, but we never take a recess from fighting for animals when their lives are on the line. Millions of animals are counting on you to speak up for them now. Urge Congress to support legislation that protects animals from needless suffering and abuse.
