John, Before the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed, literacy tests and poll taxes prevented many people from exercising their right to vote. When the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act in 2013, it took us back to that dark time of restricting the right to vote. Today, without the protections of the Voting Rights Act, Republicans are purging voter rolls, closing polling locations, gerrymandering districts, and so much more. As a former voting rights attorney, Chris knows that we need to make it easier to vote, not harder. We need to stop Republicans from suppressing the vote. And the best way we can do it is by restoring the Voting Rights Act.
