Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald

Good afternoon! I hope everyone had a great weekend.

I’m excited to report that last week, my Senate colleagues on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, including Senator Ron Johnson, passed my bill that honors a Wisconsin hero and American patriot, Colonel Hans Christian Heg. The bill, H.R. 7199, designates the facility of the United States Postal Service located at S74w16860 Janesville Road, in Muskego, Wisconsin, as the “Colonel Hans Christian Heg Post Office.” Colonel Heg served honorably as both a Colonel of the 15th Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War and as a staunch abolitionist. Next, I look forward to seeing this bill swiftly passed on the Senate floor and signed into law.

In other news, I joined my House Financial Services Colleagues in sending a letter to Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell requesting the Fed to withdraw and re-propose the misguided Basel III Endgame proposal. In the letter, my colleagues and I point out that the proposal, if finalized in its current form, would represent the most significant changes to the bank regulatory framework since the Dodd-Frank Act. Not to mention, the proposal lacks consideration of how it would reduce lending to families, small businesses, manufacturers, & farmers. You can read the full letter here.

Last week, we hit another alarming milestone under the Biden-Harris Administration. Debt surpassed $35 trillion for the very first time. To put that in perspective…this equals to roughly $104,497 per person and $266,275 per household. As President Reagan once wisely said, “we don’t have a trillion-dollar debt because we haven’t taxed enough; we have a trillion-dollar debt because we spent too much.” Despite this, the Biden-Harris Administration continues to pile up their out-of-control spending proposals. The latest being their FY25 budget request with a price tag of $86.6 trillion in federal spending over the next 10 years.

We cannot afford the left’s partisan policy agenda. I will continue to make fiscal responsibility a priority alongside my House Republican colleagues—like we did with the Fiscal Responsibility Act.

Thanks for reading this week’s eNewsletter.

Have a great week!
