*DIMONDALE, MICH.* Tomorrow night, troopers from the Michigan State Police will proudly participate in National Night Out events across the state. National Night Out [ [link removed] ] is an annual community-building campaign that takes place the first Tuesday in August. Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out events across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide. Communities host family friendly events and cookouts with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much more.
?National Night Out promotes and celebrates police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live,? stated Col. James F. Grady II, director of the Michigan State Police. ?National Night Out is a wonderful opportunity to bring police and community members together under positive circumstances and I encourage everyone to attend a National Night Out event in your community.?
In Michigan, over 60 communities are hosting events on August 6 [ [link removed] ]. MSP troopers will be in attendance at dozens of events [ [link removed] ]. Check with your local government to find out if your community is hosting an event.
Funding for police, fire and other first responders has been a priority of the Whitmer administration. In addition to a $75 million increase in revenue sharing, the FY25 budget also makes a $75 million investment in the Public Safety Trust Fund that will direct ongoing resources to cities, villages and townships to fund public safety and violence reduction efforts.
?This funding will improve public safety in our state, and as Director of the Michigan State Police, I appreciate the Governor and Legislature?s continued support of funding that will enhance law enforcement and crime reduction efforts, benefitting all Michiganders.? *?*
