Hi John,
It’s Carole and David Lander!
We are Brad’s parents and we are excited to introduce ourselves. In one week from today, we’ll have been together for 59 blessed years of mindful marriage!
Both of us are retired, and our favorite thing to do is spend time with our family. We have four terrific, loving grandchildren and two amazing children – and we are thrilled that our eldest is now running for Mayor of New York City.
We know that Brad will be a great mayor because he is a GREAT son and father! He is always there for us and for Meg, Marek, and Rosa. He always answers the phone and he always comes home for Yom Kippur.
Something you should know about Brad is that he has always cared passionately about making the world a more just and more equal place. Even as a boy, Brad seemed to have a vision of how to improve some of the injustices of the world. When he saw something that wasn’t right, he thoughtfully looked for and found ways to help.
When he realized his deaf grandfather could not participate in normal conversations, Brad went out of his way to connect with Grandpa Phil. Brad spent one winter break helping to rehab a three-family flat in Chicago that would eventually become affordable housing for low-income families. He cared deeply and was eager to commit his time and effort in ways to help.
Here’s a cute photo of Brad.
We also remember when Brad used his valedictorian high school speech to express his strategy to live a moral and ethical life. He called this three-pronged outlook 1. Care 2. Commit and 3. Get Involved. In his speech, Brad stated, “Care, Commit, and Act means that we have an obligation to ourselves and to each other to make our world a place worth living in.” We can see him coming up with something similar so many years later.
John, we are pretty sure you don’t get an email written by two Grandparents every day. And if there’s anyone who can make a good pitch for Brad, it’s his parents! We believe no one will fight harder or more mindfully for New York City than him.
If you are in a place to do so, will you please consider making a donation of $10 or any amount to support Brad Lander’s campaign for NYC? A contribution of any amount will go a long way.
