John,
This far-right Supreme Court majority just delivered a massive power grab for big corporations. We have a plan to fight back, but we need your help.
In a radical new ruling, this corrupt, out-of-touch Supreme Court eviscerated over 40 years of legal precedent known as Chevron deference that protected Americans’ rights to clean air and water, safe workplaces, and health care.
This is a huge deal. The very same Supreme Court that struck down abortion rights has empowered itself to make far-reaching policy decisions that could undermine protections for a clean environment, safe food, safe prescription drugs, and much more.
Make no mistake: this is the outcome of a multi-decade crusade by big business and right-wing extremists to gut federal agencies tasked with protecting Americans’ health and safety to instead benefit powerful corporations aiming to dismantle regulations and boost their profits.
This will pave the way for Trump’s despotic Project 2025.
That is why Congress must immediately pass my Stop Corporate Capture Act, the only bill that codifies Chevron deference, strengthens the federal-agency rulemaking process, and ensures that rulemaking is guided by the public interest -- not what’s good for wealthy corporations.
Now I need your help in building support. Will you become a grassroots co-sponsor of the Stop Corporate Capture Act to ensure that rulemaking is guided by experts in the public interest -- not unaccountable judges with deep ties to wealthy corporations?
The Stop Corporate Capture Act will curb the influence of lobbyists and corporate interests by:
-
Establishing Rulemaking Transparency: Requires public disclosure of the sources of funding for studies used in rulemaking, as well as explanations of any changes or elimination of proposed rules.
-
Eliminating Industry-Backed Delays: Limits judicial interference with public interest rules and accelerates the rulemaking review process.
-
Empowering the Public to Hold Agencies Accountable: Fines corporations for lying about the costs of public interest rules to shareholders, establishes an Office of the Public Advocate, and enables citizens to sue corporations that violate the rules and agencies that fail to enforce the laws.
To be clear, this is only one important step forward in the fight to reform the Supreme Court.
We must also enact sweeping oversight measures to rein in corruption and billionaire influence at the Supreme Court, whose far-right extremist majority routinely flouts basic ethics, throws out precedent, and legislates from the bench to benefit the wealthiest and most powerful.
Go on record as a grassroots co-sponsor and build support to pass the Stop Corporate Capture Act now.
Thank you for helping re-establish corporations’ accountability to the American people.
