Nearshoring is expected to produce opportunities for new investment and economic growth, but can this historic trend also help improve security conditions in Mexico? These concerns and others are addressed in a policy issue paper by Dr. Cecilia Farfán-Méndez, Researcher with the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation at UC San Diego, as well as in this panel. Considering that security is a top concern for moving operations to Mexico, this event will cover recent trends in organized crime and violence and offer recommendations for would-be nearshore focused investors and Mexican US policymakers.

Arab Barometer, the longest-standing and the largest repository of publicly available data on MENA citizens, recently conducted its eighth round of polling assessing attitudes toward women’s rights and gender equality. MaryClare Roche, PhD, Director of Technology and Innovation at Arab Barometer, will present the data and key findings on attitudes regarding female workforce participation, political leadership, and education, as well as gender roles in and out of the home.

Last year’s unprecedented US-ROK-Japan Trilateral Summit at Camp David heralded in a new age of expanded and enhanced cooperation. Since August 2023, the United States, South Korea, and Japan have stepped up strategic cooperation to strengthen the trilateral partnership at large, pushing forward new strategies for government-to-government engagement, military training exercises, and investments in trade and technology.
