This year, we’re facing yet another record-breaking summer with temperatures soaring all over the globe.

In the first few weeks of the season alone, several cities across the U.S. experienced sweltering heat waves that have endangered hundreds of millions of people across the country. And across the world, dangerously high temperatures have been recorded in India, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and more.

As climate change continues to intensify, we at Corporate Accountability are doubling down on our commitment to hold corporations accountable for their role in fueling this crisis.

Funding climate denialism, infiltrating the U.N. climate talks, pushing dangerous schemes like “likely junk offsets” -- these are some of the ways that Big Polluters have attempted to undermine climate action, all to continue reaping record-breaking profits and operating with impunity at the expense of communities of color, low-income communities, and communities in the Global South.

But we’re not waiting for yet another heat wave to turn up the heat on abusive corporations. Conversation by conversation, action by action, media article by media article, we are building power behind a people-centered vision of a world without corporate exploitation, extraction, and destruction. Here’s how:

BUILDING A regional MOVEMENT FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE

Last month, with our Que Paguen (Make Big Polluters Pay) allies, we participated in the Pan-Amazonian social forum to help build a shared agenda for climate justice in preparation for next year’s U.N. climate treaty talks. The forum brought together a diverse group of people and communities who live, organize, and work in the Amazon to expose how Big Polluters are getting away with abuses in the region. We and our allies specifically highlighted the work we are doing to counter false solutions to the climate crisis and its connection with corporate power. As you may know, Corporate Accountability has a successful history of challenging the military industrial complex. Our organizing to stop General Electric from manufacturing nuclear weapons parts led to one of the major victories for the nuclear nonproliferation movement. And more recently, we’ve been playing a leading role as part of the steering committee of the Network to Dismantle the Military Industrial Complex, a coalition that aims to create a world of community, care, and compassion. This year’s Corporate Hall of Shame ballot is officially open! Through our annual Corporate Hall of Shame campaign, we are exposing the transnational corporations that are doing the most harm in the world -- and the abuses they inflict upon people, communities, and ecosystems worldwide.
