Good afternoon,

I hope you’re doing well and staying safe and healthy. It has been a busy week as I returned to Washington to vote on important legislation and continued to work to help constituents from Arizona’s 8th Congressional District.

Week in Review

Watch the video below to get an update on all I’ve been doing this week, including going back to Washington, DC.

Direct Payments Update

I have heard from many of you that have already received your direct impact payments that were issued by the federal government in response to the Coronavirus. If you have not received your payment, I would encourage you to visit irs.gov/coronavirus to track your payment and get updates.

I have also received many questions from constituents who receive social security benefits about how they will receive their $1,200 economic impact payment. For those who are on social security, you will automatically receive a $1,200 payment if you received social security in 2019. The IRS will use the information from your 2019 benefits to generate a payment to you if you did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019. You will receive your payment as a direct deposit or by mail, just as you would normally receive your federal benefits.

Encouraging Stories

I was proud to see the Arizona Cardinals continuing to give back to our community in this difficult time. They worked with Project C.U.R.E. to host a personal protective equipment drive at State Farm Stadium in Glendale!

During the Coronavirus outbreak, the CDC is advising that older adults and individuals with compromised immune systems avoid crowded areas and stay home as much as possible. A group of local residents has created a program to link at-risk individuals to volunteers who are willing and able to do supply and grocery shopping as well as errands. Click here to their website to request help or volunteer.

Casework Highlight

This week my office was able to provide assistance to a gentleman who contacted us about his Social Security benefits. He completed the paperwork but never received a response regarding the status of his request. We were able to reach out to the local Social Security office to check the status. Shortly after this, his request was granted, benefits were adjusted and he received $3,000 in back payments.

As always, my office is here to help. My staff located in both Surprise and Washington, D.C. are currently working remotely. However, both offices are fully operational and stand ready to assist you. Feel free to contact us via phone, 623-776-7911 or 202-225-4576, or via email by going to my website at https://lesko.house.gov/contact/.

I encourage you to visit the website and to also follow me on Twitter and like my Facebook page for up to date information about the ongoing outbreak and available resources.

May God continue to bless you and our great Nation.

Sincerely,

Congresswoman Debbie Lesko
