Dear John,

Fiona came to us when Chicago Animal Care & Control (the city pound) reached out this month. Her owner had given her up, maybe suffering the turmoil of the COVID-19 pandemic. Poor Fiona was infected with parvovirus.

Many shelters that are not No Kill will euthanize for parvo because it is so deadly, contagious and costly to treat. Our Medical Center is equipped to isolate infected animals so the illness doesn’t spread. Even better, our expert medical team was here to watch over Fiona, administer IV’s and other medication.

The COVID-19 crisis is affecting us all, often in heartbreaking ways. That's why we're participating in a week of global giving, April 29–May 5. Please save the date, or learn more ([link removed]) . It's a time for our PAWS Chicago community to join together and remember what unites us today and gives us hope for tomorrow: saving homeless animals.

Fiona got the all-clear a few days ago and is enjoying life with a great foster family. That's because of you. Your support enables us to stay open safely during the pandemic, when so many shelters have closed.

We’re working differently during crisis, but the need is greater than ever. We’re answering urgent pleas to rescue more animals from shelters not able or equipped to operate during this pandemic; providing telehealth care to treat sick pets in our underserved communities who have nowhere else to turn; shifting our Pet Food Bank into a mobile delivery service, and providing food and medicine to people who may have to give up their beloved dogs and cats without it; and finding emergency foster families to house the animals of COVID-19 patients as well as the healthcare heroes caring for them. And, of course, we're using an online adoption process to find loving homes for pets.

COVID-19 may have upended the world, but one thing is more clear than ever: Animals are essential in our lives, for health, hope and happiness.

Please support us on Giving Tuesday Week. It's a time to raise the money so vital to saving pets—and unite as a community of animal lovers. Or if you prefer, you can support us today by funding one of our most urgently needed items. It’s the best way to keep everyone healthy and still save animals during COVID-19. Thank you for all you do.
