Ashraf Abu Musa is leading this campaign for his brother, Dr. Alaa Abu Musa, who lost his pharmacy, named after his daughter Layal, to an Israeli bomb. The same attack destroyed their apartment, leaving Alaa, his four children, and their mother homeless. They now seek refuge and need $5,000 per family member to cross the Rafah border into Egypt.
Ashraf and Alaa update us daily about the dire conditions they face. The children are exhausted and traumatized by constant alert and terror. Recent violent airstrikes and ground shelling have made their situation unbearable. I don’t know if any of us could imagine, but a ground invasion into the area started in the last few days. Imagine trying to protect your children from that. Yet, news of our campaign brings them joy and hope, knowing we stand with them against this genocide.
We call on the entire SftP community to help us reach $75,000 swiftly. Individual donations are vital, but spreading the campaign after donating is equally crucial. Successful tactics in New York include:
- Direct messaging friends and followers
- Daily sharing of campaign graphics and posts (available in the Cryptpad drive)
- Soliciting support from local businesses
- Engaging friends or artists with large followings to promote the cause
- Setting and achieving smaller fundraising goals, like $2,000 in one week
- Another way to support direct fundraising for people in Gaza is to volunteer for Career Chats for Gaza. You’d be matched to someone who’s interested in learning about your career (or a skill/creative pursuit) for a 30 minute chat and in exchange they would donate to Dr. Alaa’s fundraiser: bit.ly/Volunteer-CC4G
This campaign is endorsed and vetted by GazaFunds.com, Palestine Asdiqa and Queer Asians for Gaza. Ashraf and Dr. Alaa provide regular updates with videos and photos for our efforts. Fundraising may not seem traditionally radical, but it is a direct action that can save lives. As a radical organization in the global north, we must prioritize such efforts, following the guidance of the Palestinian resistance. The New York chapter envisions making Gaza fundraising a central focus of SftP, adopting new campaigns monthly.
Join us in this critical effort to support a family in Gaza and stand against genocide.
