Friend —
While most 19-year-old girls are starting college or enjoying life, my experience was very different. At 19, my father was deported back to our home country. From that moment, I've faced an overwhelming sense of loneliness and a lack of support.
I grew up without my grandparents, and now my son is growing up without his grandfather.
Now that I’m a mother, the risks of losing DACA loom even larger. If I lose my protections, I could be deported just like my father. If that were to happen, I don’t know what I would do. Leave my son? Or take him away from everything he knows and start a new life?
In this upcoming 2024 election, there’s so much at stake for undocumented people, especially in Texas. The Texas legislature continues to push and pass bills like SB4 that hinder undocumented communities.
We can't even take our family members to the grocery store or a doctor's appointment without fearing detention and deportation — this truly paralyzes our community and it can cost us our lives.
We need to work together to remove racists and bigots from the state legislature and elect leaders who will uplift undocumented individuals. These future leaders should ensure that undocumented people can thrive and continue to contribute to our state with the secure status they deserve.
United We Dream Action is fighting for a clear path to citizenship and supporting pro-immigrant candidates in Texas and nationwide. To achieve this, we’re going to need enough resources. Will you donate $10 right now to support our efforts?
