Governor Gordon has been fighting to ensure the delisting of the grizzly bear in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE). Through a cooperative agreement with Montana, this week Governor Gordon joined Governor Gianforte to announce the successful translocation of two grizzly bears from the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem (NCDE) in Montana to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) in Wyoming.
The translocation addresses concerns cited by the court and demonstrates the commitment of Wyoming and Montana to ensure that genetic diversity remains. "Now it is clear that the grizzly bear in the Yellowstone ecosystem should be delisted, as it has been twice before," Governor Gordon said.
Also this week, Wyoming told the the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) in a legal filing that its inability meet the legally-required deadline for Wyoming’s petition to delist the bear is unacceptable.
