John,
In a deliberate attack on economic fairness that would give wealthy individuals and big corporations a green light to continue cheating on their taxes, House Republicans are working to slash over $2 billion from IRS enforcement and block the IRS from implementing Direct File nationwide.[1]
The consequences of these cuts would be devastating:
IRS enforcement would be crippled, essentially giving wealthy tax evaders a free pass. Remember, in less than a year, enhanced IRS enforcement collected over $1 billion in back taxes from millionaires.[2] All of this progress is now at risk.
Direct File, which saved 140,000 taxpayers millions of dollars in its pilot phase, would be killed before it could be implemented nationwide.[3] This free, online tax filing system is a game-changer for millions of Americans but Republicans want to protect the profits of tax prep corporations instead of your wallet.
We can't let the GOP rig the system even further in favor of the wealthy and big corporations. With your help, we can sound the alarm and stop this plan in its tracks.
Can you chip in $10, $25, or whatever you can afford to power our campaign to defend the IRS from Republican sabotage?
The stakes in this fight couldn't be higher. A well-funded IRS with robust enforcement capabilities is critical for a fair economy that works for all Americans, not just the privileged few.
When the wealthy and corporations pay what they rightfully owe in taxes, we can lower costs for working people on essentials like healthcare, childcare, nutrition, housing, and more.
The recent increase in IRS funding has already begun to reverse years of decline in tax enforcement and the implementation of Direct File represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to simplify tax filing for millions of Americans. By trying to kill Direct File, Republicans are essentially arguing that filing taxes should remain complicated and expensive for ordinary Americans.
We're at a critical moment. The improvements we've fought so hard for are finally taking hold, but they remain fragile. If we allow Republicans to succeed in their attacks on the IRS, we risk returning to a system where millionaires are audited at lower rates than working families receiving the Earned Income Tax Credit.
Fight back against GOP efforts to defund tax enforcement and block Direct File. Donate right now to power our advocacy ensuring the wealthy pay what they owe in taxes and that working families can access free, simple online tax filing.

John,
Your relentless activism is helping the IRS fulfill its mission for tax fairness. But now, just as we're seeing real results, Republicans are launching an all-out assault to turn back the clock.
The progress we've made together is undeniable, from the innovative Direct File program that has already saved taxpayers over $5 million in preparation fees and helped folks receive more than $90 million in refunds,[1] to the $1 billion in back taxes that the IRS has already collected from wealthy tax cheats in less than a year.[2]
House Republicans are trying to sabotage this achievement as they work to slash more than $2 billion from IRS enforcement[3] and block the nationwide rollout of Direct File. It's a blatant attempt to shield wealthy tax cheats and protect the profits of tax prep corporations―at our expense.
We can't let them succeed. The Senate Appropriations Committee voted yesterday on a bill that protects IRS funding. This bill is thanks to our continued pressure. But we need to keep fighting to ensure it passes both chambers and to push back against the House GOP's reckless attacks.
Can you chip in $10, $25, or whatever you can afford to power our campaign to defend the IRS from Republican sabotage?
Republicans are desperate to weaken the IRS for their wealthy donors who don't want to pay their fair share in taxes, and to protect the obscene profits of the corporate tax preparation industry.
Let's be clear about what these proposed GOP cuts would mean:
-
A return to the days when millionaires were audited at lower rates than working families receiving the Earned Income Tax Credit.
-
Billions in lost revenue that could fund critical programs for education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
-
The death of Direct File, forcing millions of Americans to continue paying for a service that should be free.
We must continue to fight for a tax system that works for all Americans, not the privileged few. With your help, we can ensure that the wealthy pay their fair share in taxes and that everyday taxpayers have access to free, simple online tax filing solutions.
Fight back against Republican attacks on the IRS. Donate today to power our campaign to defend the IRS and defend the national implementation of Direct File.
