If she wins, Alyshia will not only be the first woman Sheriff in her county’s history but also the first Democratic woman to be elected Sheriff in the entire state of Michigan.

In 2022, the current sheriff and his administration tried to install approximately 70 license plate readers around the county. The plan was for the license plate reader companies to then share information with anti-choice states. This plan could have resulted in women ending up in prison for the crime of pursuing life-saving reproductive healthcare. Thankfully, Dyer led a coalition to fight back and the current sheriff never got the chance to install his dangerous plate readers.

Dyer has already been standing up for the people of her County and deeply understands how to bring them safety, and a justice system that works for everyone. Here’s a look at some more of Alyshia’s priorities:

✅ Stopping heavy-handed traffic enforcement that has caused significant racial disparities at the Sheriff's Office. Research has shown that this practice harms Black women at higher rates than their counterparts, especially when it comes to paying fines and fees to the legal system.

✅ Changing the demographics of the police force. Having a mostly white and male police force has resulted in ineffective and insensitive responses to domestic violence, particularly for Black and Brown women. Officers will arrive at a domestic violence call but say they don’t see any injuries. According to Alyshia, this is often due to their lack of knowledge about the ways in which bruising and harm can show up on different skin colors. This needs to change.

✅ Implementing in-person jail visitation. She also wants to ban solitary confinement for pregnant women and root out sexual harassment in jails, which disproportionately impacts women officers and incarcerated women.

The choice is clear: Alyshia is ready to take down the administration that has been in power for 16 years and bring real and exciting change to her county. But her election is coming up in a matter of days, and she needs our help.
