AUGUST

This past June, the 13 youth plaintiffs of Navahine v. Hawai'i Department of Transportation reached a historic Settlement Agreement ([link removed]) recognizing young people’s constitutional rights to a clean and healthful environment.

This is the first time we’ve witnessed true democracy in action on climate change. Hawaiʻi’s leadership heard youth voices, and responded, backed by the judiciary. All three branches of government have committed to work together to do what must be done according to best available science, to protect young people’s constitutional rights.

This month, we invite you to learn ([link removed]) about the people, the progress, and the history-making protection of children’s rights to a safe climate, powered by Our Children’s Trust.

Litigation paralegal Stephanie discusses the importance of Hawaiʻi’s first-of-its-kind Settlement Agreement that requires the Hawai'i Department of Transportation to achieve zero emissions no later than 2045 for ground transportation, sea, and interisland air transportation. Learn why Hawaiʻi offers a model for what can be accomplished to protect future generations, everywhere.
