Weekend Reading

Dear John,

Over the past year, AFSC has supported Ixil Mayan youth in Guatemala in revitalizing traditional medicine. In Guatemala, the community of Nebaj has seen a growing number of Western drugstores and rising medicine costs in recent years.

Through this project, families in the community are now growing 35 different kinds of healing plants. They are providing free, natural remedies for the community while keeping their ancestral knowledge alive. The project is part of AFSC's work with communities worldwide to build a future where all people can thrive. Watch this video to learn more. [link removed]

IN THE NEWS

We can never accept starvation as a weapon of war [link removed]

After nine months of Israel’s assault on Gaza, nearly the entire population faces high levels of food insecurity. Children are dying of starvation. Still, Israel continues to block most aid from entering Gaza. The international community must do more to end this humanitarian crisis. Read more from AFSC’s Yousef Aljamal in The Nation.

TAKE ACTION

Stop the spread of war in the Middle East [link removed]

Violence and conflict are spreading in the Middle East. The U.S. must do everything in its power to peacefully bring an end to this violence. Tell Congress to act now to save lives and prevent regional war.

Special thanks to our monthly donors, our Partners for Peace, for their ongoing support to make all our work possible.
