Fellow Conservative,

Both chambers of Congress are now in recess and will not return to Washington, D.C. until September. But this doesn’t mean they’re off the clock. They have returned to their home districts and states to campaign for their upcoming elections and meet face to face with their constituents.

This gives you an opportunity to contact them more directly by attending events or visiting their district office to make your voice heard on the issues you care about most.

Here are some things to look for:

  1. Watch for town halls or events where your member is speaking! Subscribing to their congressional newsletter and watching local group meeting announcements can tip you off to where they will be visiting in the district.
  2. Schedule a meeting with your member. While their calendars are quickly filling up, you can reach out to your member’s office and ask for a meeting—arrange for a few Sentinels to go with you, and meet as a group! Here are some Tips for Visiting Your Member of Congress’ Office.
  3. Get to know their staff. Congressional staff often travel to the district with their boss during August. Key relationships with staff can be just as effective at making sure your message is heard by your member of Congress. Here is a guide to Your Member of Congress’ Staff. Be sure to ask for their business card!

Face to face meetings and interactions with your member of Congress or staff is one of the most effective ways to share your thoughts!

Last week, Heritage Action Key Voted a package of two bills that will be included in our legislative scorecard: The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) and the Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA 2.0). The Senate passed the legislation with a vote of 91-3.

The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) fills a vacuum in protecting America’s children in three key areas:

  • Providing platform accountability
  • Increasing transparency
  • Empowering users in the form of parental controls and user safeguards

Data shows that American children are more anxious, lonely, depressed, and suicidal because of the amount of time they spend on their phones and social media.

Under KOSA, online platforms would be required to implement measures to:

  • Design and operate their products to prevent and mitigate mental health struggles such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, as well as antisocial behavior such as violence, online bullying, and sexual exploitation, to name a few
  • Share their policies and practices related to user data in a clear, conspicuous, and easy-to-understand manner
  • Provide accessible and easy-to-use tools that allow kids and their parents to limit intrusive features such as notifications and the sharing of geolocation
  • Gives control of children’s online privacy settings to their parents

Under COPPA 2.0 data privacy protections will be increased because it:

  • Increases the age of protected minors from 12 to 16 and prohibits the collection of data on children for unauthorized purposes
  • Requires online notices of data collection and user rights
  • Provides teens and parents of children (under 13) with the right to request deletion or correction of personal information
  • Changes the knowledge standard from actual knowledge to actual or fairly implied knowledge that a user is a minor

Combined, this is the most significant online accountability legislation to rein in Big Tech since the 1990s.

The bill now heads to the House where we will work in support of additional provisions to further improve and strengthen the bills. We will keep you updated about what those provisions will be and make sure that when Congress returns you will have the tools you need to engage your members of Congress to get the job done and protect kids online.

It’s no secret, the border is in tatters. The Biden-Harris administration has left it in disarray and there is no getting around the facts, no matter how hard they try to rewrite history.

The difference between conservative border policies and the current administration is clear.

Remember, Vice President Kamala Harris was who Biden chose to be the “Border Czar” responsible for securing the border. Here are some fast facts about how that’s gone:

  • Strained Social Services: 59% of households headed by illegal aliens use one or more major welfare programs, compared to 39% of households headed by the U.S. born.
  • Fentanyl poisoning: Between April 2020 to April 2021, Texas witnessed a 800% increase in fentanyl seizures at the southern border.
  • Increased Crime: In fiscal year (FY) 2023, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Removal Operations officers arrested 73,822 noncitizens with criminal histories including assault, sexual assault, weapons offenses, homicide, and kidnapping.

And the list goes on. States have stepped up to fill the void—like in Missouri, where Attorney General Andrew Bailey sued the Biden-Harris administration for refusing to turn over documents concerning their flying of illegal immigrants from the border to his state.

Share this information with everyone you know. The border crisis impacts ALL Americans. You deserve to know the gravity of the consequences of the Biden-Harris open border.

Patriots like you play an important role in ensuring that America’s elections are secure. It should be easy to vote and hard to cheat. When we have individuals committed to fairly carrying out election laws all across the country, Americans can have faith in those election’s results.

This past week was National Poll Worker Recruitment Day. Be sure you have made a plan for how you can serve this election.

Poll Worker Day 600pxls.jpg

In most states, there are two key ways you can serve as a poll worker or a poll observer. Poll workers have a direct impact on protecting the election process where poll observers add another layer of transparency to the election process.

If you’re interested in help to secure the upcoming election, here are two key ways you can help:

  1. Find out more information about serving as an election worker in your state by going to heritageaction.com/pollworker.
  2. If you live in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, West Virginia or Texas be sure to let us know how you plan to serve on election day.

Thank you for serving.
