(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont of Connecticut, Governor Kathy Hochul of New York, and Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey recently sat down with reporter David Ushery of NBC 4 New York for a conversation regarding the impact that smartphone use in schools is having on students’ education and mental health, and steps that each of their administrations are taking to develop effective solutions that deliver the best results for the wellbeing of children.
States, municipalities, and school districts nationwide have been developing responses to the growing disruptions that the use of smartphones are having in the classroom. In Connecticut, Governor Lamont has been advocating for policies that get children off of their smartphones and off of social media and focused on listening to their teachers and socializing with their peers.
