Folks – I joined Jake Tapper on CNN to discuss Trump’s offensive remarks at the National Association of Black Journalists conference, and the stakes of this election.

In case you missed it, here are just a handful of the disgraceful comments that Trump made:

• On Vice President Kamala Harris: “I didn't know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now, she wants to be known as Black.”


• On his presidency: “I have been the best president for the Black population since Abraham Lincoln.”


• On ‘Black jobs’: “A Black job is anybody that has a job.”

This is a pattern for Trump. He will use the background and identity of a person of color in an attempt to alienate them. He tried this with former President Barack Obama, falsely claiming that he wasn’t born in the United States.

To be clear: Kamala Harris is not a DEI hire. She’s always proudly identified as a Black and South Asian American woman.

Donald Trump can’t even pronounce Vice President Kamala Harris’ name correctly, but to attack her identity and call her a “play toy” is outright offensive and disgusting.

Extreme Republicans are fully endorsing the Project 2025 playbook by using race and gender to attack Democrats like Kamala all throughout the country. They’re throwing everything at the wall to slow down our growing momentum. But we have to fight back against these outrageous claims.
