AFT 1493 secures health coverage for part-timers
After two years of tenacious organizing and pushing their employer, members of AFT 1493 at the San Mateo Community College District have settled an MOU that includes full health coverage for eligible part-timers.
“Faculty equity promotes student equity,” Executive Director of AFT 1493 Marianne Kaletzky stated. Members of 1493 worked in solidarity between full-time and part-time employees which they attribute to their success.
Another member Mays Danfoura stated, "Winning this recent healthcare battle has been such a huge relief for me. It feels great knowing that my family and I now have reliable access to a solid healthcare plan. Balancing semester-to-semester challenges while dealing with unexpected medical costs can be really stressful, so having access to district medical plans really takes a lot of that pressure off and gives me peace of mind."
Congratulations to AFT 1493 on this significant and hard fought win!
