John, this moment is crucial.

Last week, multiple climate justice activists were arrested while protesting against the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) in New York City. John, will you sign a pledge to stand in solidarity with them?

In the blazing July heat, activists from the Ugandan diaspora and from 350, Desis Rising Up & Moving (DRUM), the Black Hive, and more turned out in NYC to target Wall Street for its role in funding the climate crisis.

Together, we gathered outside the headquarters of insurance giant American International Group (AIG) in protest to demand the company not insure EACOP. Thanks to the courage and boldness of our collective action and civil disobedience, our message could not be ignored.

EACOP has been described by activists as “a carbon bomb for humanity.”1 And if approved, it would displace Tanzanian and Ugandan communities along its nearly 900 planned miles of pipeline, while having long-lasting and devastating impacts on our global climate.

EACOP activists in the U.S. and in Uganda and Tanzania have been sounding the alarm — but have been met with harassment, arrests, and even kidnapping.2 In the face of unfathomable evil, these courageous activists are continuing the fight to stop the corporate greed of fossil fuel finance.

The fight for a fossil-free future will take all of us. The climate crisis we’re facing knows no borders — so we must stand united in support of those on the frontlines in the fight for our future. Can we count on you to sign your name and pledge to stand in solidarity with the EACOP activists and amplify our collective fight to end fossil fuel expansion?

Activists around the world have pressured banks to drop EACOP. While 29 insurance companies have already vowed not to insure EACOP, AIG has stubbornly refused to rule it out.

While diaspora activists are rising up in the U.S. to stop EACOP, activists in Uganda and Tanzania are also fighting for clean energy alternatives to EACOP with the REPower Afrika campaign. And together, we can continue amplifying the efforts of the many communities fighting fossil fuel expansion!

We must support EACOP activists as they face growing pressure from law enforcement and violent backlash from fossil fuel agitators. Will you pledge to stand in solidarity with the EACOP activists?
