Hi james,
When Joe Biden stepped aside and Kamala Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee, Donald Trump’s entire election narrative collapsed overnight. Lacking a coherent policy platform and embroiled in countless scandals, he’d been banking on his ability to hammer his opponent on his age and cognition. He now finds himself squaring off against someone younger, far more articulate, without any real electoral baggage to speak of. In his desperation, he’s retreating to what he knows best: pure, unadulterated racism.
Following Trump’s lead, Republicans have begun pushing the truly deranged allegation that Kamala Harris is not really Black because she’s also of Indian heritage. According to conservatives, there’s no such thing as a biracial person. Back in the real world, though, Harris has embraced and expressed pride for her background.
Nobody outside of the hardcore MAGA base is going to respond well to this new GOP narrative. More importantly, fixating on bizarre 19th century race science is a surefire way to send independents — which is to say the demographic that Trump needs to woo if he’s going to win battleground states — scrambling for the hills.
Pass the "No Kings" Act and strip Trump of his immunity!
This new line of attack takes on an even stranger bent when one considers the fact that Trump’s historically unpopular running mate J.D. Vance has an Indian wife and biracial children. If he had even a trace of dignity left, Vance would condemn Trump’s new strategy. Instead, he described his cult leader’s deranged remarks as “totally reasonable” because he’s a spineless coward who will always choose his own pursuit of power over principles.
Meanwhile, Harris continues to pull ahead in the polls. She’ll be announcing her vice presidential pick in the coming days and given the quality of the names on her shortlist, she’ll likely see an even bigger surge in support. Whoever she selects will have an easy time cutting a sharp contrast with the deeply weird Vance who will, once all is said and done, likely go down as the worst VP pick in history. He can’t appeal to moderates, has hardly any government experience, and is viscerally off-putting to voters in a way that’s difficult to fully articulate. It seems that every day a new clip emerges of him espousing some creepy fringe belief about reproductive rights, rape, children, or “childless cat ladies.”
Beyond that, Harris has an enormous advantage when it comes to the material issues of this election. Abortion is going to be a principal factor this November and Trump’s repeal of Roe v. Wade hangs like an albatross around his neck. She’s a former prosecutor and he’s a convicted felon. She stands for democracy while he’s an out-and-out fascist responsible for a deadly insurrection. Harris wants to expand healthcare access, provide paid family leave and childcare, and support our allies abroad. The only things on Trump’s agenda are a national abortion ban and more tax cuts for the rich. The choice is simple. Now, let’s get out there and spread the message.
Stay focused, stay energized.

PRE-ORDER “SHAMELESS”
I’ve written my first book, titled “Shameless.” The book lays bare the long con of the Republican Party, illuminating the dangers of the ever-widening gulf between the vaunted Republican brand and their actual behavior; how the media has proven itself a willful participant in this farce; and how Democrats can rebalance the political landscape. Featuring insights from Jen Psaki, Pete Buttigieg, among others, and with a foreword by Jamie Raskin, Shameless will be essential reading as we head toward November. DON'T BE A MITCH FUND
The "Don't Be A Mitch" campaign is back after a hugely successful 2022 cycle, having raised $1.2 million for voter registration groups ahead of the midterm elections. This year, with a tough Senate map, we have no room for error. I put together a list of organizations from 5 key states (Montana, Ohio, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Missouri) that I think are best situated to ensure that the Senate stays in Democrats' hands. Any amount helps!
