I joined my Senate GOP colleagues for a press conference to discuss the U.S. Secret Service and FBI’s failures that led to the attempted assassination of President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. There are several questions that must be answered in order for the Secret Service to regain the trust of the American people and ensure this will never happen again. Senate Republicans will not rest until we have answers. Watch here.
Great news! Two of my bills passed the U.S. Senate this week and one bill passed out of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. The first bill to pass the Senate this week was a bill I authored with Sen. Klobuchar to make the bald eagle the national bird of the United States. The bald eagle is a strong symbol of patriotism for our nation, and it’s time past time we make this designation official.
The second bill was the Kids Online Safety Act. I firmly believe that children's privacy and mental health should always be protected, especially online. This bill safeguards children and families against threats to children's well-being online and holds Big Tech accountable, requiring online platforms to put the interests of families first and provide an environment that is safe by default.
Finally, a bill that is very personal to me, the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Program Reauthorization Act, passed out of the HELP Committee and now awaits a vote on the Senate floor.
In 2020, my family’s life changed in an instant when our son, Jim, who was 15 at the time, suffered a TBI while wrestling. While we are on the other side of recovery thanks to the experts at the Center for Neuro Skills in Bakersfield, California, and the grace of God, not all patients who suffer TBIs are so lucky. The TBI Program Reauthorization Act will ensure the millions of Americans who suffer traumatic brain injuries and those suffering from long-term disabilities because of the injury have the support and resources necessary to navigate recovery.
