As Congress heads into 5 weeks of recess, we must work harder than ever to organize and win here in Los Angeles.

Dear Friends,

As Congress heads into 5 weeks of recess, also known as August Recess, you might be wondering what this means for you, and all of the important pieces of legislation we have discussed over the last few months. To put it simply, nothing happens. No votes, no committee hearings, nothing.

Traditionally, the August Recess is a time when legislators return to their districts to reconnect with constituents, listen to your concerns, and prepare for the legislative battles ahead. However, many Members of Congress, like Jimmy Gomez, will spend this time cozying up to big donors and special interests, putting their agendas above the needs of everyday Americans. This is why it's crucial for us to seize this moment to organize and mobilize. When they return to Washington in September, we must be ready to hold them accountable. But we don't have to wait until September to begin our work; we can start making a difference now, and here’s how.

Double Down on Engagement and Activism

With Congress in recess, now is the time for us to double down on engagement and activism. We must seize this opportunity to amplify our voices and push for the change we want to see.

We have a range of opportunities for you to get involved and make a difference right here in CA-34. The fight for a brighter future begins with grassroots action, and there are several ways you can join us in this movement:

  1. Join Us at the "It's Time For Us" Community Picnic: On August 11th at 10:00 AM, we’ll kick off the final phase of our campaign with our community picnic. This event will bring together community members, supporters, and activists as we strategize and mobilize for the months ahead. Join us for a day of food, community, and action with plenty of opportunities to connect with like-minded people committed to making a difference.

  2. Sign Up to knock doors: Help us reach voters directly by signing up to canvass in your neighborhood. These efforts are crucial for spreading our message and ensuring that every voice is heard. Your participation will help us build the grassroots support needed to win this race.

  3. Attend a "Coffee w/ the Candidate":  Get to know me and my vision for CA-34 by attending one of our "Coffee w/ the Candidate" events. This is a chance to have a personal conversation, ask questions, and learn more about how we can work together to bring about positive change in our community.

  4. Educate and Empower: Watch our weekly Congressional Education and Community Highlight  videos, and share information about key issues and policies with friends and family. Educate others about the importance of civic engagement and how their involvement can make a difference. Empower people to register to vote, volunteer for campaigns, and take an active role in shaping their future.

  5. Connect and Collaborate: Reach out to local organizations and advocacy groups such as JVPAction, IfNotNow, and others. Collaboration is key to building a strong movement. By connecting with these groups, we can share resources, ideas, and strategies to enhance our collective impact.

  6. Advocate and Influence: If you are in CA-34, contact Jimmy Gomez, and if you’re outside of CA-34 call your representative, and let them know where you stand on critical issues. Write letters, make phone calls, and use social media to amplify your message. Hold elected officials accountable and remind them that they work for the people, not special interests.

By doubling down on engagement and activism during the recess, we can ensure that our voices are heard and that our demands for justice, equality, and peace are at the forefront of the legislative agenda when Congress reconvenes.

Support Pro-Ceasefire Candidates

This August, we have a unique opportunity to rally behind candidates who stand for peace, justice, and the principles that unite us. These candidates represent a vision for a future where diplomacy triumphs over conflict and where our communities prioritize compassion and cooperation. Now, more than ever, they need our support.

  1. Stand with Leaders Committed to Peace: Leaders like Cori Bush have tirelessly been advocating for a ceasefire and peaceful solutions over military action, despite immense pressure from powerful interests. AIPAC has invested over $5 million to unseat her with a candidate who opposes our values. We must support Cori and other pro-ceasefire candidates who challenge the status quo. With the Missouri primary coming up next Tuesday, we only have a few more days to rally around her and ensure she wins. Support here HERE!

  2. Defend Our Movement in CA-34: In California’s 34th District, AIPAC and their allies have backed my opponent, Jimmy Gomez, in a bid to silence our progressive movement. Our campaign is fueled by a vision of a more equitable society—one where every person has the opportunity to thrive. We are up against powerful interests that strengthen the status quo. Together, we can push back against these forces and ensure that our voices are heard.

  3. Be the Change-Makers: We, the people, have the power to shape the future of our nation and build a Congress that truly represents the will of the people—a Congress that fights for peace, justice, and equality for all. By uniting our voices and efforts, we can overcome the influence of special interests and bring about meaningful change. Now is the time to mobilize, organize, and support candidates who share these values and will champion the causes we hold dear. Together, we are stronger and can take a stand for a better future. Let’s show the world that when we stand together, we are unstoppable.

Now is the time to step up and take action. Whether you're knocking on doors, making phone calls, or engaging in meaningful conversations, every effort counts. Together, we can build a movement that puts people first and drives the change we all wish to see.

It’s Time For Us,
David Kim
