U.S. Census Data API Status [ [link removed] ]
*What's New?*
Over the past few months, we have made continuous improvements to data.census.gov [ [link removed] ] and the Census Data API page. We hope these enhancements will provide a better user experience.
* *New API status page: *Based on user requests, we have now added an Application Programming Interface (API) Status page [ [link removed] ]. The dashboard provides information about the status of the Census Bureau API and the Census API key sign-up process. Click ?Census Data API? or ?Census API Key Signup? to get more detailed metrics and visualizations.
* *New Messaging for ACS 1-year Data:* We have implemented new messaging to explain minimum population requirements for American Community Survey (ACS) data in table and map views. You will notice these changes when you click on the question mark icon for ACS estimates at the bottom of the map. A pop-up window will appear, providing an explanation of the minimum population requirements.
* *Address Search Functionality Improvements:* You?ll notice new geographies supported by the address search functionality. We have added the block group and state legislative districts that an address falls within. Additionally, the geography icon pin now appears in all views of the single search bar, whereas previously it was only visible on the main landing page. These updates enhance both navigation and data access.
* *Improved display of geography filters: *With this update, geography filters are ordered by the Geography ID rather than alphanumeric sorting of the geography name. This provides more intuitive sorting of geography filters, particularly for geographies that contain numbers as part of the name, such as congressional districts, state legislative districts, and census tracts.
* *Organization of International Trade Filters: *The following types of codes, including Advanced Technology Products (ATP), End-Use Export, End-Use Import, Harmonized System (HS) Export, Harmonized System (HS) Import, NAICS-Based International Trade Code, Standard International Classification (SITC), and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) have been organized under a new category titled ?International Trade Codes? in the filter panel.
Other notable improvements to data.census.gov [ [link removed] ] and Census Data API include:
* The ability to access column and cells notes for tables that have recommended views called ?pivots.?
* The ability to select table ID filters in the ?Search for a filter or table? search box in the left navigation of the filter panel. When accessing the API, you?ll have the ability to provide multiple links to API data requests that correspond to your table view. When applicable based on your table selection, multiple API links are now provided in a ready-to-use format with their own copy buttons.
* We?ve removed the year in the map legend for time series datasets to prevent conflicting years from showing in the same view as well as improved the formatting for descriptions of the map layer.
* Improved interactions with table cells, and you can now right-click any cell to copy or export its contents. Additionally, left-clicking on table cells with three vertical dots will allow you to view notes associated with that cell.
* We?ve added a new toggle feature that lets you see the margin of error in the table view for your map. This enhancement provides a clearer understanding of the data?s accuracy.
* When using the maps, you?ll notice they have been refined for the United States in the geography profiles and accurately depict Alaska and Hawaii with the scale removed to improve clarity.
* We have improved the display of margins of error for population pyramids in the Geography Profiles. An option labeled ?Display Margin of Error? now appears below the population pyramid.
