This week, I also worked with my colleagues to introduce two new pieces of legislation that will support students in higher education. Both bills are part of the Roadmap to College Student Success, House Democrats' campaign to reform America's higher education system for students and families.
The first bill is the Campus Prevention and Recovery Services for Students Act. This bill would help higher education institutions implement programs to prevent alcohol and substance misuse on campus and support those with substance use disorders. If passed, it would fund college prevention and recovery services at $75 million over five years. For a detailed overview of this legislation, see this press release from my office.
The second piece of legislation is a bill to bolster outreach on child care and leave at institutions of higher education. The Helping Student Parents Succeed Act would ensure students expecting a child and student parents are made aware of child care, leave options, and other accommodations that are available to them at their schools. I look forward to passing these critical pieces of legislation which will help set students and their families up for success when they are seeking opportunities in higher education.
