Since I’ve been involved in politics, and especially since I was elected to Congress, I get a lot of questions from friends and family about how they can most effectively impact the outcome of elections. People want to know the best way to help – and the good news is that the answer is pretty simple:
One of the absolute most impactful things you can do to ensure the outcomes we want in the 2024 elections (aside from voting!) is to donate to candidates you believe in.
Not everyone loves that answer. I get it – after reading headline after headline, seeing all the polls, and watching the news every night, we want to DO something. We want to really get involved and give it our all so we can stop seeing horror stories about the extreme GOP and start seeing the progress we all want from our government.
Having the funds to support on-the-ground work is so, so important – and I will definitely be coming to you with volunteer asks as the election draws closer. Having conversations with voters is absolutely a critical part of winning elections, especially if those voters are people who know and trust you because that makes them more likely to listen to what you have to say.
And at this exact moment in the election cycle, your donations have a seriously outsized impact on how things go, because they allow campaigns to scale up outreach, place targeted ad buys that directly reach the most critical undecided voters, and execute plans they’ve been mapping out for months and months.
So, all of that is to say: I can promise you that not only do your online donations MATTER to campaigns, but they actually do seriously heavy lifting when it comes to securing the outcomes we want.
