One of the most monumental issues that remains on the minds of Americans is border security, and it’s understandable why. Within the past week, at one point or another, we’ve all seen news coverage on this exact issue – but what we’ve seen is far from positive. This past Sunday morning, for instance, a police officer in San Antonio was shot and wounded by an illegal alien from Venezuela. That same day, a grandmother in Loudon County, Virginia lost her life during a carjacking committed by an illegal alien from El Salvador. These stories – along with countless others – are truly tragic, and they underscore a point that I have been calling attention to for some time: without border security, America remains vulnerable.
But who really stands for border security? It’s a simple question that the American people want an answer to. Since the beginning of the 118th Congress, as I have laid out to you many times before, House Republicans have advanced legislation to enhance border security and to confront the seismic catastrophe at the southern border head on. My stance on this issue is crystal clear, and my record reflects it. Below you’ll find a few examples of legislation that we’ve passed to date but pay attention to who did not stand with us in achieving these two imperatives:
H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act
H.R. 3941, the Schools Not Shelters Act
H.R. 7343, the Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act
H. Res. 1371, Strongly condemning the Biden Administration and its Border Czar, Kamala Harris’s, failure to secure the United States border
By every metric, President Biden has failed to secure the southern border, and his very own Border Czar, Vice President Harris, has elected to advance open border policies rather than putting the safety and security of Americans, and the nation, first. House Republicans understand that the only way we’re to end this border catastrophe is to return to President Trump’s reinforced border security policies. I’ll continue to stand and fight to achieve that end. Under President Trump’s leadership we had true border security – we should return to that immediately.
Our Investigation Continues
Since October 7th, Columbia University has been the home to some of the most egregious displays of antisemitism we have seen on a college campus – and that is saying something given how widespread this problem is within “higher education” today. On Thursday, I renewed the Education and the Workforce Committee’s push for information and documents that Columbia has failed to produce despite repeated requests. These priority items, which are critical to the Committee’s investigation, include communications by priority custodians of documents, including multiple members of Columbia’s Board of Trustees; records of Board of Trustees meetings; and requested information on disciplinary cases. In many cases, these items were requested months ago. Columbia’s continued failure to produce these priority items is unacceptable, and if this is not promptly rectified, the Committee is prepared to compel their production.

Demanding Answers
In case you missed it, I recently issued a subpoena for communications and documents from the Department of Education related to the botched rollout of the 2024 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Millions of students are relying on accurate information to determine their next steps, but the Biden-Harris administration is too concerned with hiding their incompetence to provide applicants with the certainty they need. This subpoena comes after months of hedging and delays on the part of Education Secretary Miguel Cardona and other officials in the Department of Education. It’s clear that the Department of Education isn’t going to give its co-equal branch the relevant information willingly, so this subpoena is the only logical next step.
