Greetings,
We hope you had a great week! It was a busy end to July for sure as Congressman Kim continued to look after local needs in Congress. From transit delays to securing grant funding, we are looking to build off of this work in August and heading into the rest of the year. We hope families are having a good summer as we get closer and closer to back to school time already.
As always, we hope you find these updates and resources helpful.
Congressman Kim Helps Secure $72.5 Million to Boost Climate Resilience across New Jersey Shore
Early this week, Congressman Kim was excited to announce that the Building a Climate Ready New Jersey project will be awarded $72.5 million from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate Resilience Regional Challenge to make New Jersey’s coastal communities more resilient to climate change and other coastal hazards.
He helped deliver funding for this program through the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, and advocated earlier this year to NOAA so they would select this project! This award will bring federal dollars back to our state to help protect our Jersey Shore and coast communities. By bolstering our resilience across 16 coastal New Jersey counties, this project will help look after people’s safety, livelihoods, and the security of our coastal economies!
Showing up for our First Responders!
Our first responders deserve to have the equipment they need to stay safe when they’re called to an emergency. This week, Congressman Kim announced that he was able to help secure $462,909 in grant funding for three local fire departments to replace outdated equipment, look after firefighters’ safety, and support first responders’ service protecting New Jersey communities. He was grateful to be able to help connect Bordentown Township Fire District 1, Bordentown Township Fire District 2, and Chesterfield Fire District 1 to the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program through FEMA and help get them this critical funding!
The fire departments will use the funding to replace outdated self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) devices with new safety-compliant SCBA sets, including facemasks, packs, and air cylinder containers, as well as bottles, masks, and rapid intervention SCBA units.
Pushing for Solutions to Major Train Delays
New Jerseyans deserve a reliable and safe commute. Congressman Kim passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to invest in our transportation infrastructure and is calling on the U.S. Department of Transportation to use this funding and fairly consider grant requests that will get NJ the repairs we need.
