Have your say on the St Mary’s Way ‘Streets for All’ project to help transform Oldham Town Centre

We want your feedback on the ‘Streets for All’ project to transform St Mary’s Way into a pedestrian and cyclist-friendly area while promoting environmental sustainability.

The project offers numerous benefits for local residents, including:

•  Improved Access to the Town Centre: Enhancing safety and convenience for pedestrians and cyclists, boosting local business activity, and making the town centre more enjoyable.

•  Safe Routes for Young People: Providing secure access for children and young people to the new Eton Star Oldham sixth form college.

•   Greener Public Spaces: Developing environmentally friendly public areas with the planting of trees and shrubs, contributing to a greener Oldham.

Residents and visitors can look forward to various enhancements, such as the installation of a two-way cycle track with priority over side roads, upgraded bus stop facilities, and a greener streetscape.

We have launched a [new consultation]([link removed]) to gather your feedback. Residents can [take part in the survey here.]([link removed])

Green Oldham: Council secures funding to help community Hub grow

The council has received funding worth £53,125 to improve facilities at one of the borough’s growing hubs, helping us to support more Oldhamers.

The Veolia Environmental Trust has awarded the money so Wildbrook Growing Hub can be developed into a thriving base that benefits the community by producing food that can then be distributed to those in need via Oldham Foodbank.

Wildbrook Growing Hub is a former community allotment off Wildbrook Crescent, Fitton Hill.

It was brought back in March 2023 after being closed for more than seven years. In that time it had fallen derelict and had been targeted by vandals.
The restoration project is a partnership between the council and Local Food First CIC.

Council carries out taxi safety operation

Oldham Council’s recently carried out an enforcement operation aimed at making sure taxis and drivers operating in the borough are safe.

Licensing officers joined colleagues from the Greater Manchester Police Traffic Unit and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) on the night of action.

In total, 18 private hire and hackney vehicles were pulled over by officers and taken to the council’s Moorhey Street Depot so they could be checked over by trained mechanics to see if they were safe and roadworthy.

Oldham Mumps - Rochdale Metrolink Line Update

Land movement affecting the Metrolink network near Derker has slowed, enabling detailed ground investigations and temporary repair works to get underway.

To get trams running again, a small section of track has to be moved back into its original position. The overhead line poles also need to be repaired.

Due to the complexity of the work, it is expected to take up to five weeks to complete but Transport for Greater Manchester are looking to accelerate repairs.

Until repair work has taken place, no trams will operate between Rochdale Town Centre and Oldham Mumps.

Services will operate between East Didsbury and Oldham Mumps, with a replacement bus service operating between Rochdale and Oldham.
