Fireside Sessions

Freedom's Path Waco

Congressman Sessions with Stan Parker

Time in the district during August recess is one of my favorite times of year. I have already gotten to engage many of you as I spent time across the district this week, making stops in Jewett, Huntsville, Lufkin, and Nacogdoches. Last Friday, I presented a flag flown over the Capitol to Stan Parker of the Stan C. Parker Foundation as we celebrated the groundbreaking of Freedom’s Path Waco. This project will redevelop and construct permanent supportive housing for Waco’s veteran community at the Doris Miller VA Medical Center. I have long been supportive of Stan’s work in helping the local veteran community and was honored to speak at this groundbreaking. Freedom’s Path Waco has been a long time in the making, and I was happy to assist in this project from the federal side. I am committed to Freedom Path’s Waco’s mission of supporting veterans through their challenges. It is our turn to give back to those who have served our country.

iEngage

It was a pleasure to address the campers at iEngage, Baylor University’s civic education summer camp for middle school students. Throughout the week, campers learned about the importance of engaging in our American civic processes and how they can make a difference. One camper visited me in my office a couple weeks prior to help me prepare my remarks to his peers. These bright young minds represent the future of our nation. I have no doubt that these students will take us, in the words of that great American  philosopher Buzz Lightyear, to infinity and beyond! Thank you, Baylor University School of Education for making this opportunity for our community.

Save the Date: Latexo Town Hall

Houston County and the surrounding area: join me on August 13 for a town hall at the Latexo High School Gymnasium to honor the 12-time state champion Latexo Math Team and their coach, Audrey Cravens. This event provides a personal platform for constituents to engage with me and hear firsthand about the latest developments in Washington. Come with questions and suggestions on issues impacting Houston County, the 17th Congressional District of Texas, and our great nation. I look forward to hearing your thoughts, opinions, and concerns. Visit my website for more information.

My office is still accepting nominations for local exceptional veterans to receive a Congressional Veteran Commendation (CVC). The CVC program recognizes veterans residing in the 17th Congressional District of Texas who have continued in service through community involvement. For more information, visit sessions.house.gov/congressional-veteran-commendation or contact Tori Magers in the Waco District Office through email at [email protected]. One of my great privileges as a Congressman is getting to recognize exceptional Americans through the CVC program. Nominations are due by August 15th.
