"At the Aspen Institute, our founders gave us a framework for finding
solutions in these times and all times, and that framework is dialogue,
which may be the best resource we have to reweave the social fabric and
rebuild American trust."
Dan Porterfield, President and CEO of Aspen Institute
Cultivating Trust at Aspen Institute
Recent polls and surveys reveal a deeply concerning trend: trust in
institutions and interpersonal trust is declining across generations and
demographic backgrounds.
This erosion of trust impedes our ability to engage in meaningful dialogue,
unite around shared narratives, and tackle the critical issues facing
society together. A lack of social trust weakens the civic fabric of U.S.
democracy, creating barriers to collective action and progress.
This is why the Aspen Institute is pleased to [2]announce a new three-year
initiative aimed at addressing the critical issue of declining trust in
institutions and in each other. Funded with a $7.25M grant from Allstate,
this initiative seeks to leverage the influence of national community-based
organizations to strengthen trust among local community members, in turn
unifying the public around the common good and fostering a more cohesive
and collaborative society.
“The Aspen Institute has a long history of bringing people and
organizations together to address pressing societal issues,” said Dan
Porterfield, President and CEO of the Aspen Institute. “Through this
partnership with Allstate, we will help empower groups making a difference
at the community level to create a ripple effect of trust and collaboration
nationwide.”

In Focus: Trust
The Aspen Institute is helping repair the structures that [17]allow trust
to flourish and looking for ways to build new ones. We do so by bringing
people of different backgrounds and beliefs together in dialogue,
developing the leadership of those working to bridge divides, and advancing
evidence-based solutions that strengthen trust in individuals,
institutions, and information.
