Even though many of our family, community and religious cherished traditions have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, we must take time to celebrate our diverse brothers and sisters in the Democratic Party whenever we can. This week marked the beginning of Ramadan, the holiest month in the Muslim spiritual calendar. The Muslim community has continued to grow in New Jersey and contribute to our rich cultural melting pot. At the same time, there have been despicable attacks on Muslim residents over the years that we all must stand uniformly against. In the spirit of collaboration and understanding, I wish Ramadan Mubarak to all those observing the holiday and best wishes during this challenging time.

Among other areas where he has excelled during the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Murphy has been a true statesman. He has put protecting New Jerseyans ahead of any political considerations, even when that means being deferential to the White House. But earlier this week, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell simply went too far in calling for states like ours to go bankrupt rather than receive the federal assistance we desperately need.

Governor Murphy has provided our state with decisive, steady and compassionate leadership throughout this crisis, and New Jerseyans are clearly recognizing that fact -- with a new poll out earlier this week showing his approval rating skyrocketing to 71%. The Governor’s actions along with the incredible work being done by frontline health care workers, first responders, and so many others are saving lives every day. Governor Murphy has made it crystal clear that he cares deeply about each and every single person in our great state and that he will do whatever it takes to protect them, and residents overwhelmingly support his efforts.
