In Congress right now, there is a poison policy pill rider that would drastically limit funding for salmon restoration efforts. This action undermines the federal government’s obligations to Tribal nations in the Columbia River Basin. Urge your Congressional representatives to oppose this poison pill policy rider and lead on salmon restoration! [[link removed]]
We’re excited about Vice President Kamala Harris running for president! She advocates for climate action and environmental justice. Now, we have an opportunity to elect pro-environment leadership in the White House and environmental champions in state and local offices! Pledge to vote for the environment now! [[link removed]]
This spring, WCA-endorsed King County Commissioner Dave Upthegrove for Commissioner of Public Lands (CPL). Upthegrove is the only candidate not accepting money from the timber industry and their lobbyists. He has decades of experience in natural resources and environmental policymaking. He has demonstrated a commitment to racial justice, environmental justice, and Tribal sovereignty. He is best positioned to win this important statewide position. Read our Convene interview with Dave Upthegrove to learn about his vision as CPL. [[link removed]]
Your vote in the primary could determine the next Commissioner of Public Lands, the Governor, and other state and local representatives. We need strong, qualified environmental champions like Dave Upthegrove and Bob Ferguson to lead these positions to lead our state toward justice. Review WCA’s endorsements here. [[link removed]]
You have heard about Initiative 2117 that seeks to repeal the Climate Commitment Act. Unfortunately, that’s not the only initiative that threatens climate progress. I-2066 would halt the transition to clean energy to heat homes and businesses, make new buildings less energy efficient, and would ultimately mean higher costs from Washington families. Vote NO on 2066 — and donate today [[link removed]].
WCA and our team of volunteers are making significant progress on “Call 4 Climate Action,” our ambitious voter engagement campaign to get 50,000 new or infrequent voters to commit to vote! Be a part of this historic effort–with more than 10,000 already committed. Volunteer to phone bank with us on August 15 at 6 p.m. [[link removed]]

Thank you for making the 9th annual Tacoma Earth Gay a sold out event! On July 27, more than 100 people showed up to be in community with LGBTQ+ environmentalists. We successfully cleaned up Wapato Hills Park to conserve vital habitats.
In July, WCA’s Native Vote Washington hosted a summer PAC event at the Center for Wooden Boats. We exceeded our fundraising goal and successfully raised more than $30,000 to support Native candidates running for office in Washington and increase voter engagement and education in Indigenous communities. STAFF CORNER: Julia Lilly (she/her)
Julia (she/her) is WCA's Administrative Associate. She has always lived in Washington State -- grew up in Issaquah, went to school at Seattle University, and now lives in the city with her best friends.
Julia spent a lot of her childhood outdoors.
"From the rainforests on the peninsula, the marshes nestled in between the mountains in Issaquah, to the shrubstepps of Eastern WA, our state felt as enchanting as the worlds I would read about in my favorite books."
At work, Julia manages the books for WCA's 501(c)(4) and WCA's affiliated Political Action Committee, as well as supporting the development team on donation processing, data entry, and donor acknowledgments.
"If you’ve ever received a “Thank You” letter or postcard in the mail, that’s from me!"
Outside of work, Julia's #1 passion is dancing. She grew up as a competitive ballet and jazz dancer, and danced in numerous musicals. Now, she is part of the contemporary dance company, Coalescence Dance Company.
"It’s a great creative and emotional outlet, and I find the discipline required for dance to be very gratifying."
