We’re 52 days into the Summer of Heat and Citibank is boiling over, Friend.
Each week, activists have put their bodies on the line to demand that Citibank stop funding fossil fuel investments. Young people, climate activists, Gulf South leaders, faith leaders, grandparents, and scientists have shown up each week in our full power to fight for a livable future for all of our communities.
So far, over 430 activists have been arrested while demanding an end to financing fossil fuel expansion. Our presence is undeniable, and Citi is retaliating with fabricated, trumped-up charges against Summer of Heat leaders.
This is their attempt to silence our movement to stop fossil fuel financing, but we’re not backing down.
While Citi has financial resources at their disposal, we’re rich in people power. We need you with us to continue the fight to end Citi’s funding of climate chaos – will you chip in $15, $25, or any amount you can now to fund our fight through August?
By making your donation weekly through August 30th, you’re supercharging our campaign and fighting directly against Citibank’s retaliation. Please consider making a weekly donation this month.
While Citibank retaliates against our organizing efforts, we know that our campaign is working. In the last month, a group of Summer of Heat coalition members met with Citibank leaders to ask them directly if they will stop funding new fossil fuel projects.
At this meeting, Citibank said they were “comfortable” with their transition plan. But our communities aren’t “comfortable” with their continued funding of fossil fuels.
The climate clock is ticking and in less than 6 years, we’re going to face irreversible impacts on the planet. Black, Brown, and poor communities will be hit first and worst by extreme weather brought on by climate chaos – and it’s not a comfortable place to be.
Even though Citibank may attempt to gaslight us about their intentions, our movement won’t quit until they stop funding fossil fuel projects.
Can you make a weekly donation now of $15, $25, or any amount you can through the end of August so we can have the necessary resources to support Summer of Heat direct actions?
We’re steadfast in our commitment to fight for our communities to thrive in a livable future. We won’t back down – and we're glad you're with us, Friend.
Sincerely,
The NYCC team
P.S. Another powerful action you can take is signing our petition to demand retailers like Costco, AT&T, and Best Buy drop Citi as a credit card partner – will you sign the petition?
