CHAPTER UPDATES
[[link removed]] Philadelphia Chapter
Have you heard? The hottest new book release this month is a collaboration between RG Philly and our partner org, the Poor People's Army! It's called TAKEOVER! A Human Rights Approach to Housing. You can learn more and snag your copy at poorpeoplespress.com/takeover-book. And if we may, it would make a stellar selection for any book group or housing justice study circle.
Ohio Chapter
RG Ohio's small but mighty team is working on two ambitious projects in 2024! Three of our members attended the RG campaign training and have started to explore opportunities to engage with our local CPD affiliate as well as other collectives doing exciting housing justice work, while the rest of us are collaborating with some Columbus-based comrades to design and launch a Giving Project. Anyone with Ohio connections who might be interested in either of these projects should send them our way!
Vermont Chapter Partnership Team
RG Vermont has surpassed our goal of $250,000 in the campaign to support Cooperation Vermont/People’s Network for Land and Liberation with the purchase of Goddard College — with $304,000 currently pledged! We are moved by the support of RG's national community in our pursuit of community-owned real estate and establishment of a just transition campus here in the northeast.
With this commitment, alongside $1.1 million in additional raised capital and a $2 million loan, Cooperation Vermont is close to the $3.4 million total property value. They are currently in negotiations with involved parties, including other competitive buyers, and RG’s donations will be crucial in substantiating this bid.
However, the deal is not done. Reach out to Izzy [
[email protected]] or Susanna [
[email protected]] if you're interested in getting involved or learning more.
Meet Tammy Shapiro, RG’S Senior Director of Organizing!
Tammy, a white woman with shoulder-length curly hair smiling at the camera [[link removed]]
Hi Resource Generation! My name is Tammy Shapiro and I am the new Senior Director of Organizing. I am originally from just outside D.C., went to university in Madison, Wisconsin, and have been living in Brooklyn, NY for almost 2 decades. I was politicized through anti-racism organizing, anti-war activism, and building the Jewish left in the early 2000s, and I've worked in all corners of the movement ever since.
I have fought against inequitable power structures by protesting against the big banks during Occupy Wall Street, organizing against gentrifying redevelopment after Hurricane Sandy in NYC, and working to create the world we want to see through a decade of organizing in the solidarity economy, specifically working for the trade association for worker cooperatives in NYC. I have helped organize mass climate mobilizations, and supported movements of all kinds to strengthen the power of their networks. Through all these experiences and more, I have seen the power and necessity of hospicing the world we don’t want, and midwifing the one we do into existence.
I am so excited to join the Resource Generation team and have a chance to support the activation and transformation of young people, who are vital to resourcing all of these aspects of our movement. I am really excited about the opportunity to support and strengthen the entire organizing team at Resource Generation and the organization as a whole! Outside of organizing, I spend as much time as possible outdoors, making music and gathering friends.
