NARAL Pro-Choice America recently changed its name to Reproductive Freedom for All. Our name may be new, but our mission of protecting and expanding reproductive freedom remains the same.
Hi John,
As someone deeply committed to reproductive freedom, I want to share some urgent news about the state of abortion access across our country. The right to abortion in this country is in crisis like never before. That's why we're fighting to pass a federal right to abortion—because we cannot continue to claw back our rights state by state. Will you join me in pledging to fight for abortion access nationwide?
The Current Landscape:
In recent years, we've witnessed an alarming rise in state-level abortion bans and restrictions with nearly half of states in the country enforcing bans on abortion. These restrictive laws not only infringe on our reproductive freedom but also disproportionately impact marginalized communities who already face significant barriers to healthcare.
The Reality on the Ground:
- Iowa: On Monday, a law banning abortion after six weeks of pregnancy, before many even know they are pregnant, took effect.
- Texas: SB 8 banned abortion after six weeks of pregnancy—and allows private citizens to sue abortion providers and anyone helping a person access an abortion.
- Alabama: Alabama completely banned abortion, and has also tried restricting IVF (in-vitro fertilization), further undermining people's freedom to decide when and if to start a family.
- Wyoming: Passed a bill (not currently in effect) to ban the dispensing and distribution of medication abortion, which is used in the majority of abortions and is particularly crucial for people in rural areas.
- Nebraska: Banned abortion at 12 weeks and banned gender-affirming care for young people in the same bill.
Abortion Ballot Initiatives:
Across the country, several states have abortion-related measures on their ballots this year. These initiatives can restore access to reproductive health services in states like Arizona and Florida, and increase access in places like Nevada—and we've seen time and time again that when abortion access is on the ballot, it wins.
But fighting state by state isn't enough—which is why we're working hard to pass a federal right to abortion. Will you join us?
Attacks on Birth Control and IVF:
The assault on reproductive freedom doesn't stop at abortion. There have been increasing attacks on birth control access and in-vitro fertilization (IVF)—including a recent Senate vote where Republicans blocked legislation that would have protected the right to access contraception and IVF.
We need to band together to secure abortion access and reproductive rights. Add your name to join our pledge.
Together, we can make a difference. By committing to protecting reproductive freedom, you are committing to banding together and fighting for the rights of all.
Thank you for your dedication to this important cause. Our collective actions and votes are crucial in this fight for reproductive freedom.
With gratitude,
Caroline Mello Roberson
