Dear John,
I’m running for Mayor because I love this city.
Today, I’m delighted to introduce you to a few of the New Yorkers I’ve met along the way whose grind and compassion inspire me – and who were also kind enough to be a part of our campaign launch video.
Please click here to watch our video highlighting some truly remarkable New Yorkers, then pitch in to power our movement.
Our campaign is built on the aspirations, values, and hard work exemplified by New Yorkers like the folks featured in the video:
People like Geraldine Parker, the long-serving President of NYCHA’s Stapleton Houses Tenant Association in Staten Island. Parker has lived at Stapleton as long as she's been married and raised six children there. She has been a proud advocate for Stapleton residents – launching youth programs, organizing a pop-up food pantry during the pandemic, and winning better lighting to keep her neighbors safe.
Or Tim Hwang, an occupational therapist who specializes in mental health at PS 373 Brooklyn Transition Center, a District 75 school in Bushwick serving students aged 14-21 with special needs. He’s also a certified mindfulness meditation teacher who has dedicated himself to serving others in order to feel more empowered, happy, and fulfilled.
And Yarys Lopez, my favorite New Yorker of all those I’ve met in the past year. Yarys came to the Bronx from Honduras with her mom and sister when she was 11 years old, seeking asylum after gangs there threatened to burn down their house. After their family escaped domestic violence and homelessness, she graduated as valedictorian of her Bronx public high school.
This spring, I had the joy of watching Yarys graduate from CUNY’s Lehman College. Now, she works as a paralegal at New York Legal Assistance Group helping current asylum seekers file their applications for legal status and work authorization. It really doesn’t get more hopeful – or more New York City – than that.
I’m proud to be running this campaign the right way — powered by and for hardworking New Yorkers (and without taking campaign contributions from corporate or real estate PACs, big real estate developers, fossil fuel executives, or private equity companies who do business with NYC).
But that means contributions from grassroots supporters like you are all the more important to our campaign — and donations made by NYC residents could have 8 times the impact through the city’s matching funds program!
Will you pitch in a one-time contribution of $10 today?
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
Thank you, John. I can’t wait to meet more New Yorkers on the campaign trail and hear your stories.
Brad
P.S. In case you didn’t catch it, that’s my boxing coach Carrie Schechter at 00:44 in the video, founder and owner of Jukebox NYC, the first woman-owned boxing club in Brooklyn, and voted Best Boxing Club in Brooklyn in 2021. She’s working me out for fights to come. Please give us a hand by contributing today.
