THE WEEK's BIG 3

ADL is partnering up with Hillel International and other Jewish organizations to provide colleges and universities with recommendations for combatting antisemitism this upcoming school year. An Israeli strike has killed a chief Hamas negotiator, Ismail Haniyeh. Some mainstream American news outlets are eulogizing Haniyeh as an advocate for a ceasefire and a martyr. Former President Donald Trump called Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff a “crappy Jew” during a recent radio interview.

Jewish groups present recommendations for schools to tackle antisemitism

“In an effort to curb rising antisemitism on college campuses as the fall semester nears, five leading Jewish organizations are partnering to present a new series of recommendations for university leaders to implement at their schools, eJewishPhilanthropy has learned.” READ MORE: eJewish Philanthropy

+JG Tweet: With a new academic year right around the corner, ADL is partnering with other Jewish groups to lay out clear guidelines for universities to adopt. Strike in Iran kills Hamas’s chief negotiator

“In a divided Hamas, political leader Ismail Haniyeh was the strongest voice advocating for a cease-fire, clashing at times with other Hamas officials in heated discussions since the war in Gaza began. A targeted strike in Tehran killed Haniyeh after he attended the Tuesday inauguration of Iran’s new president—an attack that could give Hamas’s hard-liners more sway and further complicate cease-fire discussions.” READ MORE: Wall Street Journal

+JG Tweet: Since Tuesday night, I've watched CNN eulogize arch-terrorist Ismail Haniyeh as a "moderating force" and a "political leader." The New York Times called him "relatively pragmatic." Washington Post called him "one of the moderate figures" within Hamas.

Trump, radio host attack Second Gentleman as ‘crappy Jew’

“As Donald Trump scrambles to find a line of attack against his new 2024 rival – Vice President Kamala Harris – he’s falling back on his basest impulses. IN a Monday morning radio interview with the conservative Sid & Friends In the Morning Show, the former president repeated past assertions that Jewish people who do not support him are bad Jews.” READ MORE: Rolling Stone

+JG Tweet: Enough is enough. Regardless of your intent, extremists are emboldened when political candidates question Jewish people on whether they are “good” or “bad” Jews. Stop telling us who is a good Jew, how we should vote, or what we believe.

KEY ADL SOCIAL STATEMENTS

  • It has increasingly become more common for antisemites to feel vocal & empowered. The most recent example of this is also one of the most unprecedented -- an entire conference dedicated to Jewish hate. Watch below & read more from our Center on Extremism.

  • It's a clear bias that, despite political messaging restrictions for all countries, the Palestinian Olympic team was allowed to wear shirts during the opening ceremony depicting bombs dropping from planes. In contrast, Israel was not permitted yellow ribbons for the hostages.

  • Yonatan A. Greenblatt, a 21-year-old IDF soldier, died this past weekend after being wounded by Hamas rocket fire.    We aren’t related, but I will remember him like a family member.    If we have learned one thing since 10/7, let it be that we all are members of the same family.
